THE ART OF PARENTING - Fine Art Print, Crow Portrait 

In this photograph, you are introduced to Mabel, a crow with a long and well-loved story, and her hungry fledgling.

Following the loss of her mate, George Brokenbeak, Mabel found a new partner and went on to raise many crow babies. On the year this photograph was taken, she had three. There comes a certain point in the summer-long fledgling-raising process when crow parents start to lose patience and insist that the young ones stop demanding attention and start feeding themselves and picking up their own socks (perhaps I'm over-identifying with Mabel here.) They generally just want A MOMENT to themselves.

This photograph captures one of those relatable parental moments when Mabel seems to be thinking — "I love you, I really do, but I just need to step away for a second. And, would it kill you to pick up your socks??"

Once the guardian of our backyard, Mabel relocated to a schoolyard at the end of the block after her first partner George died. Her absence since last spring suggests she is now in the great beyond, and the new avian duo, Bongo and Bella, have inherited her corner.
